    The Proposed architectural Masterplan

46 Homes, Endless Gardens, a Museum and Resident Communal Spaces Invite Nature and Marine Life

This project looks at one of the existing Climate Crisis' that threaten cities around the  world - Flooding.

Cardiff is a coastal city and at risk of flooding, particularly in low lying areas and along the River Taff. Since the construction of the Cardiff Bay Barrage in 1999, sea water levels are currently being controlled, however the barrage is only be successful to a certain degree.

The site is located in Cardiff Bay, in a disused basin known as Roath Basin. Cardiff has made attempts to liven Cardiff Bay, and bring tourism and residents to the area. Yet Roath Basin remains neglected, acting as a bothersome void for vehicles and pedestrians.

The proposed Masterplan addresses climate and housing crisis'  through a floating community, providing colourful and safe public spaces and a partnering education hub to the existing Techniquest Science museum in Cardiff Bay. The plan is anticipated to bring life to the area. Bridges connect all corners of the site, making convenient routes  and integrating surrounding communities.

The scheme and programme of the Masterplan encourages a healthy and social life for the older residents. The social programme and built environment of the islands creates a healthy lifestyle for  residents, in contrast to the environment that currently exists for older people in Wales and  the rest of the UK. By connecting residents to like-minded people and nature, the project stimulates a socially, purposefully, mentally and physically healthy life. The  mental and physical health problems faced by older generations today are challenged  through this proposal.

People and wildlife, are all brought together and create new and improved communities using Roath Basin as a catalyst for a more cohesive and vibrant Cardiff Bay.
