Llandaff Park's Sports and Community Centre Proposal is designed to protect bird species that are at risk of extinction in South Wales such as the Swift, Greenfinch and Rook.
Concept Sketch - Varied Viewing Levels
The design of the Sports and Community Centre Building provides homes for birds and insects within the wall and in the Rooftop Aviary. The aim of the Centre is to bring awareness to the importance of protecting bird species and their homes, by integrating them into and onto the building's surfaces.
Bird houses have been designed into the envelope of the walls, ramps and stairs creating warm spaces in cooler winter periods.
A journey is created winding up to the rooftop through the park's trees (the existing homes of the birds). This brings people up close and personal with these aves.
The rooftop cafe overlooks Llandaff Park, the cricket grounds, the aviary and indoor sports facilities below. This is a prime spot of the proposal which connects visitors to all social aspects of the proposal and its context.
